Quilts for Kids Nepal

Located near the famous Boudhanath stupa in Kathmandu,
Quilts for Kids Nepal is a social enterprise that provides employment for economically challenged women in Nepal and education for at-risk children in  SouthEast Asia. The organization employs women, mostly survivors of trafficking, abuse, or extreme poverty, and offers a venture where they can use their talents to make quilts and other handicrafts. Profits from their products fund education, school uniforms, healthcare, and other essential services for children in need.

Quilts for Kids Nepal believes that providing steady income to women can promote education and have a positive social impact that creates a ripple effect in communities far beyond its immediate geographic location.

ATW80Fabrics reached out to Quilts for Kids and commissioned one of their talented seamstresses, Karma Kaur, to make one of our quilts featuring different kinds of cotton from around the world.

As the organization states "Quilt-making is a time for the women to share stories, discuss family problems and, of course, catch up on a little bit of gossip. But more importantly, it is an opportunity to pass on skills and wisdom to a younger generation.  Through Quilts for Kids Nepal, many young women are learning traditional quilt-making skills and finding out, for the first time, the real value of their own creativity."
