Natural history and ecology:
Linden is a fiber from the bark of trees that grow high in the mountains of northern Japan. It is harvested during the wet season when it is easiest to peel the bark.  

What makes this so special: Found in the remote villages of Yamakumada, Ikazuchi, and Sekigawa, most of the remaining linden weavers are in their 70s and 80s, making this a tradition on the brink of disappearing.
